From a recent Chicago collector estate sale we present this beautiful large extremely rare antique French Art Nouveau terracotta bust of L'HIVER. "L'HIVER" to the front title plate. Un-Signed. C.1880-1900
This is a wonderful large heirloom Art Nouveau terracotta sculpture bust in exceptional condition as well as excellent fine artistic detail and presentation. This wonderful art piece from the Art Nouveau era depicts the famous L'HIVER. This wonderful Art Nouveau Maiden is a fine French seasonal representation of Winter in a wonderful warm poly chromed finish.
According to the estate executor, this great art piece is French in origin and was once a large up-scale store front window display in the late 1800's and early 1900's in downtown Chicago. The huge size of this at 23 inches in height and weight of nearly 18 lbs suggest this account to be reasonably likely and accurate. This would have been, of course, have been the time frame for the World's Fair that was held in Chicago in 1893.
This magnificent bust is executed in great detail and is no doubt from a Master French foundry. The Art Nouveau Themed Maiden is presented in long flowing hair, loose draped gown and a wonderful display of pine branches and cones adorning her hair. "L'HIVER" to the front title plate area.
This sculpture is wonderfully patinated in warm autumn and winter colors. The earth tones on this amazing bust simply make for a stunning display of the maiden. This huge art piece will capture attention and generate discussion regardless of where you choose to display her. She would look wonderful in any Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, European or French style décor. She would also anchor any French or Art Nouveau sculpture collection. But you do not want to miss this rare opportunity to purchase this as she will not last long!
Height: 23 Inches Width: 12 1/2 Inches Depth: 10 1/2 Inches Condition: Fine - No damage noted. Only very minor normal wear and use indicators commensurable with her 100+ years age.
