Fine French Art Nouveau Bronzed Bust of Hooded Woman by Georges Van der Straeten C, 1900-1930

From a resent estate of an Art Nouveau sculpture collector we present this beautiful Art Nouveau cold patinated bust of a Hooded Parisian Lady after renowned French / Belgian sculptor Georges van der Straeten (1856-1941). Original period bust professionally remounted on a newer marble base. Un-Signed. C. 1880-1900

This is a magnificent early rare bust by van der Straeten and is in exceptional collector condition. A wonderful high quality bust with her head tilted to one side smiling, a well known trade mark of Van der Straeten. This a well-recognized and highly sought after by serious collectors and difficult to find offered for public purchase. When they are offered – they usually fetch a premium price – especially in this condition. This original period bust has been professionally remounted on a newer marble base due to severe damage of the original base. This is one décor antique accent that you will simply love and not want to miss!

Georges van der Straeten was a Belgian born naturalized French citizen who was first a lawyer until 1882 and then selected painting and sculpture as his favored vocation. He exhibited at the Salon from 1885 until 1912. He worked with and became friends with Jan van Beers . He received numerous rewards, including a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900. He became a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1903. Van der Straeten demonstrated great technical expertise in his sculptures. His bust are highly prized and are fancy graceful and alluring young Parisian women - a little scoundrels and frivolous.

This Exquisite heirloom bust will make a stunning visual display regardless of where you choose to locate her. Her size and artistic detail that you expect from a Van der Straeten bust, the wonderful condition, aged patina and beautiful marble base – all make this a prized heirloom collectable. Again, this great bust does not bear Van der Straeten's signature. We have carried both the signed and un-signed version of this bust and we are attributing this to Van der Straeten without reservation.

Height: 9 inches Condition: Excellent - No Observed Damage - Only very minute minor use and wear indicators commensurable with her age. Newer marble base.
