A superb recent private collector estate acquisition in this beautiful antique English Victorian era nude Parian or Bisque Classical bust of Nude Andromeda. Un-Signed. C. 1860-1900.
This is a superb collector heirloom art piece that is rare by any measure – simply a wonderful presentation of the mythological Andromeda in grand form Parian or Bisque composition. A wonderful classical depiction of this beautiful woman with her arms bound with shackles and chains in a standing pose beside a pedestal. From the top of her head to the round raised base – this wonderful heirloom Parian statue has all of the attributes of a Master casting shop. This is a fine piece with delicate lines and was purchased by first owner in Germany before WW II. She was protected inside the owner's French vitrine until purchased by the collector about 20-25 years ago. Pristine condition.
Of course, this is Andromeda - the daughter of King Cepheus and Queen Cassiopeia. Cassiopeia, having boasted her daughter Andromeda equal in beauty to the Nereids, drew down the vengeance of Poseidon, who sent an inundation on the land and a sea serpent, Cetus, which destroyed man and beast. The oracle of Ammon announced that no relief would be found until the king exposed his daughter Andromeda to the monster, and so she was fastened naked to a rock on the shore. Perseus slew the monster and, setting her free, claimed her in marriage.
This is a great serious collector piece of wonderful detail and beauty. She will demand attention regardless of where you choose to locate her.
This beautiful statue will look amazing due to her respectable size and great artistic detail. She would look great on a desk, table, shelf, dresser, display cabinet or vanity or even an end table. She would go well with any Edwardian, Victorian, Old English or Classical themed décor and will make a great addition to any statue or Classical sculpture or Bisque / Parian collection. But, you better hurry as this will not last long!
Height: 10 1/2 inches Condition: Excellent Collector Condition - No Damage – Beautiful for her 100+ years age.
