Superb French Vintage Bronze Bust of DIANA the Huntress

A superb recent estate acquisition in this vintage French deep bronzed metal statue or bust of "DIANA The Huntress." Un-Signed. C. 1900-1940

This is a magnificent mint art piece by any means – simply a stunning presentation of this majestic Roman Goddess with her renowned head dress in a side view poise. From her majestic head dress to the ornate pedestal she stands on – this is one beautiful vintage bronzed sculpture you are sure to appreciate. This is from a Master Shop. The amazing bronzed with green verdigris applied patina is beautiful. This is a serious Collector art piece.

Of course, in Roman mythology, Diana was the goddess of the hunt, the moon and birthing, being associated with wild animals and woodland, and having the power to talk to and control animals. She was equated with the Greek goddess Artemis, though she had an independent origin in Italy. Diana was worshiped in ancient Roman religion and is revered in Roman Neopaganism and Stregheria. Dianic Wicca, a largely feminist form of the practice, is named for her. Diana was known to be the virgin goddess of childbirth and women. She was one of the three maiden goddesses, Diana, Minerva and Vesta, who swore never to marry. Oak groves were especially sacred to her. According to mythology, Diana was born with her twin brother Apollo on the island of Delos, daughter of Jupiter and Latona. Diana made up a triad with two other Roman deities: Egeria the water nymph, her servant and assistant midwife; and Virbius, the woodland god.

It is extremely difficult to find statues of Diana in any condition - much less in this Mint shape. This is a great serious collector piece of wonderful detail and beauty. She is solid, heavy and will demand attention.

This wonderful heirloom quality statue would look great regardless of where you choose to display her due to her size, artistic detail and amazing darkened bronze patina. She would look great in an entry foyer, on a desk, table, shelf, dresser, mantle or especially on her own pedestal. He would look exquisite in any Edwardian, Victorian, French, Old English, Ancient Greek or Roman themed décor and will make a great addition to any statue, Roman or Greek Mythology collection. But, you better hurry as this will not last long!
