A excellent vintage set of gold gilded colored cold patinated cast metal bookends after Antoino Canova Lions in an Gold Gild color finish. Old Felt. C 1900-1940

Antonio Canova (1757 – 1822) was an Italian sculptor from the Republic of Venice who became famous for his marble sculptures that delicately rendered subjects. The original marble lion sculptures represented by the bookends sit at the tomb of Pope Clement XIII in Rome, Italy.

These vintage collector bookends are well known and highly sought after. They present a dramatic display of Canova's artistic style and classical talents that made him so famous. This great set will display well regardless of where you choose to locate them. They would look wonderful on a table, desk, book shelf or simply stand alone sculptures that will showcase grandly.
