A fine large antique French cast metal statue of a Bacchanal Gypsy celebrant during the grape harvest. Cold painted finish with gold gild highlights. Un-Signed. C 1850-1900

A wonderful large rare statue of a Bacchanal Celebrant dressed to celebrate the grand grape harvest. The festivals theme was very popular and statues representing this theme are very hard to come by.

This great statue is in wonderful condition and represents the male celebrant in grand fashion. Great detail and artistic workmanship presented here on a nice raised scalloped pedestal base and adorned with grapes, leaves, wine vase and trellis -all with gold highlights. The Bacchanal celebrant is holding a clump of grapes as he dances while holding the wine vase in his other hand. Finish appears to be a cold painted bronze type finish with old gold gild highlights.

This is a very large and heavy statue that would display well in any Classical, Greek, French, Bacchus, Bacchanalia, Gypsy, Edwardian, Victorian or Wine themed decor. Can you imagine what this would look like next to or on top of a great antique wine rack!
