A fine large Bronze Patinated Copper or Tin Art Nouveau period Ewer / Pitcher by the renowned Carl Deffner (1856-1948) Company of Esslington, Germany. Signed to under base with the renowned "C D E" around crossed battle-axes with larger "E" above the makers mark. Inscribed security number "6074." C 1890-1920.

A beautiful older German Esslingen Carl Deffner Art Nouveau copper ewer or pitcher. The ewer or pitcher is adorned with Water Lillies and the beautiful smooth lined design so representative of the Art Nouveau period. The detail on this is crisp and superb. A great dark green verdigris has formed over the years.

Carl Deffner of Esslingen, Germany, was born in 1856 and took over his father's metalware factory in 1900. Deffner was known for excellent design in decorative copper and brass Jugendstil pieces employing renowned artist and designers of the period. "Carl Deffner Esslingen" was famous for producing tin, copper, brass, bronze and silver plated items and very innovative in creating new patterns. Highly sought after by collectors of Art Nouveau and Jugendstil period metal-ware. This is an older Deffner piece identified by the incised "E" over te Deffner Mark.
