This interesting box is constructed of a very rich looking Santo Domingo Mahogany, has a nicely reinforced lid, beautifully dovetailed construction and measures 22 1/2" W., 15 1/2" D, and is 6 1/2" in Ht. It's just a wonderful storage medium for a prized quilt or coverlet or whatever might be your heart's desire! Please note in the photos there are a few pcs. missing from the rim of the lid, a 2" pc. at one corner, a 5 1/2" pc., another 2" off a corner, not really that noticeable with the lid in place. Keep in mind this was a very functional and utilitarian object showing an honest amount of wear. The square cut tiny nails securing the top could certainly place the construction of this in the first half of the nineteenth century, possibly as early as 1830-40.
