This very fine crafted bone (possibly beef bone) and wood (we believe it to be Santo Domingo mahogany) is extremely well crafted and detailed down to the recoil lugs on both sides to keep recoil at bay so it would not go clear across the deck of a ship and thus smashing thru the hull on the opposite side. This particular item came out of a very large collection of very interesting but ecclectic things we purchased in the Scranton, PA area many years ago! It has remained in my personal collection for the last twenty or so years however we do believe it to be in total not more than fifty years old. An interesting representation of what once was with defensive arms & armor.
