Collectable 1930's quilt hand stitched 'Grandmother's Fan' pattern, skillfully rendered. Professionally appraised at $425 - 450. Multi-colored fans on alternating 8" x 8" calico squares. The other half of the 63 squares is a rich cream color, heavily hand quilted in the popular feather wreath pattern.
Base tone is a rich cream front and back, accented by a striking lavender pink on 3" of its 6" frame and on the fans' handle grips. Back is same cream cotton. A 2 - 1 / 2" ruffle surrounds the entire quilt in the same cream color.
Squares are machine pieced with good pattern match. All other stitching is hand quilted at 7 stitches per inch. Total measurements: 73" x 89". This quilt is a generous twin size, (shown on a queen size bed). I feel it could carry a full size bed also.
Excellent condition overall. No damage observed. Batting is smooth cotton, not lumped. A few of the fan pieces are getting thin due to fabrics of the era, but are not far enough along to warrant repair or replacement. Pictures show overall quilt, closeups of fans, wreaths and edging on front and back sides to illustrate extensive quilting.
