This is a circa 1970 African necklace made from bone to resemble ivory. This vintage piece was purchased from an antique shop near Wilmington, NC. The owner purchased it about 40 years ago while on vacation in Africa.
It features 13 ivory colored spikes and 12 brass colored metal paddle spikes in between each of the bone spikes, the longest being almost 4 inches. The necklace measures 18 inches around the neck. There is a simple silvertone metal hook clasp.
It is very comfortable to wear and feels smooth against the skin. It is definitely a large and dramatic necklace but it doesn't overpower an outfit, it compliments it. Nevertheless, this is a statement piece and not for the conservative jewelry lover.
