Early 1950s Marcel Boucher Pin & Earring set

Marcel Boucher trained under Cartier before opening his own jewelry shop in New York in 1937. This fine pin and clip earring set is of his classic design – one that he used with many different colors of rhinestone settings. The rhinestones are many faceted and truly sparkle in the light. It is made from gold- and silver-colored metals that have held up very well over the last 60 years. The metal remains very shiny on the front side, but does have some pitting on the back from having been worn a lot. The ear clips still have a lot of spring in them and would definitely stay on your ears.

As you can see from the photos, the earrings are just about the size of an American nickel, and the pin is about 1 ¼ inches across.

The mark on the back is the "Phrygian cap" with the letters "MB" underneath. This mark was used from 1937-49 and for a short time in the early 1950s if there was a place to put the mark. This piece also bears the inventory number of 5190, which does place the piece in the early 1950s Boucher began putting a copyright mark on his jewelry in 1955. This piece does not bear the copyright mark, thus it is pre-1955. Boucher died in 1965 and his wife carried on the business until 1972, ending the Boucher designs forever.
