This beautiful French crucifix is made of mother of pearl and hallmarked for 800 quality silver. I am dating it to circa 1900. It was expertly cleaned before I received it.
The crucifix is 2 and 7/8" (7.4cms) long, including the ring, by 2" (5cms) across. It weighs 5.7 grams.
Each arm has an elaborate pierced ornamentation of leaves and scrolls. The centre of the crucifix is lustrous mother of pearl to which the corpus has been fixed. The Christ has been skilfully sculpted to show his agony. Above him is a silver plaque bearing the inscription `INRI'.
The top scrolling ring at the top bears the French crab mark for 800 silver. A bail is attached to carry a chain.
The reverse is similar to the front, except for the corpus.
This lovely crucifix is in fine condition. On the lower part of the cross there is a small natural blemish quite usual for this type of item . It will arrive in a gift box.
