This tiny, heavily gold plated medal is from the 1930's. It celebrates Our Lady of Beauraing in Belgium. From November 29, 1932 to January 3, 1933, Mary appeared 33 times to the playground of a convent school to five children. Identifying herself as "the Immaculate Virgin" and "Mother of God, Queen of Heaven," she called for prayer for the conversion of sinners.
This exquisite medal measures 11/16" (1.7cms), including the ring, by 3/8" (1cm) across the centre.
On the front is a raised image of Our Lady with hands clasped in prayer. She stands on a rock amidst clouds. Around the edge is inscribed in French `Souvenir de Beauraing'. At the top is a ring with a hallmark and then a bail to hold a chain.
On the back is a delightful image of trees and a bridge. Around the edge is inscribed `Lieu de L'Apparition' – Place of the apparition.
In fine vintage condition this adorable piece with so much detail could easily be mistaken for gold.It will arrive in a gift box.
