French Antique Mother of Pearl Rosary Box for First Communion

This is an antique French rosary box made of mother of pearl and brass. It would have been offered to a child with a rosary on the occasion of a first communion. It dates to circa 1880-1900.

The box is egg shaped and measures 3" (7.5cms) by 1 ¾" (4.5cms) approximately.

It has the most lovely iridescent, mother of pearl on both sides. It has a beaded , brass frame which may once have had a gold wash. On one side is a hinge and it opens and closes easily by means of two little tags.

This lovely item is in excellent condition with no cracks. However the hinge appears to have been discreetly stabilised by means of copper wire. It comes to you very carefully presented and protected.
