Antique Japanese Shakudo pin/brooch in mix metal ~ The pin features two highly detailed warriors with Copper,gold ,silver highlights on darker black metal ~ Shakudo is a traditional Japanese material, and is an alloy of gold and copper; the dark bluish-black patina is achieved by applying a compound called rokusho to the piece and then heating it and originated for use in Japanese armor and swords. It was banned in 1876 by their government, artisans turned to jewelry and to other objects to continue this honorable and idyllic craft .
This pin is a very fine example of this work and is atleast 100 years old ~ It is signed in Japanese on the backside.
Measurements ~ Pin measures 1/2 inches maximum drop length x maximum width of 1 1/4 inches ~Weighs 6.4 grams on my weighing scale.
Condition ~ Good antique condition ~ No major flaws noted , only for some surface wear .
