The horseshoe handles and hub and spoke patterned lid of this Frankoma Desert Gold 2 quart covered casserole add a strong western statement to your day-to-day or special occasion table setting. As the Frankoma catalog puts it "The romance of the west lives on with our Wagon Wheel set". It would be fun to plan a western BBQ around this centerpiece with it's "good luck" horseshoe handles. Frankoma began manufacturing this covered casserole in Oklahoma in 1942 and stated that the "cattle-brand" decorations around it's rim remembers that ranchers use this branding to "identify (their) proudest possessions". The glaze is called Desert Gold and is tan over brown with tan being the dominate color of the piece. The casserole is in excellent vintage condition with no cracks or crazing. There is one small chip on the lid knob. Because it is located on brown glaze, the chip is easy to miss when looking at the casserole as a whole. Please inspect pictures closely to view this defect. The casserole is 4 3/4" high including the lid handle and 10 3/8" across including the horseshoe handles. Excluding all handles, the casserole is 8" wide X just under 3" high. The casserole opening is 5" wide and the lid is 6" across. 'Frankoma' and '94v' are marked on the bottom of the casserole.
Your Red velvet box gift is called "David the Musician" from the Teenagers of the Bible Frankoma collector plate series.
