Beautiful striated glass, sometimes referred to as Porphyry glass is the main attraction in this 1950s-1960s brooch and earrings set in brasstone from West Germany. Gorgeous blue colors, ranging from sky blue to cobalt are accented with striations throughout in these large oval domed cabs. Aurora borealis rhinestones crank it up a notch, adding a touch of brightness and sparkle. Brasstone filigree frames with dogtooth prongs, in the typical West German style of the period, provide a rich, romantic backdrop. Colors, stone treatments, and filigree work are top notch.
The set includes the brooch, at approximately 2 1/4 inches x 1 3/4 inches with a 9/16 inch profile. The cab itself is an incredible 1 5/8 inches x 1 1/4 inches with a 9/16 inch dome. The matching clip earrings are about 1 inch x 15/16 inch. The earring cabs are approximately 3/4 inch x 1/2 inch. The set weighs in at about 45 grams.
Condition of the set is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. Amazingly, all glass cabs are free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. Superb colors and striations. All rhinestones retain ab color and light play as well as brilliance. Brasstone filigree has wonderful patina. Pin back and earring clips secure. No damage / no repairs. This set is circa 1950-1960s. The brasstone metal does have a patina and there is a tiny bit of age appropriate wear on earring clips. That's about it. Glass cabs, rhinestones and filigree frames are outstanding.
Each original earring clip is signed "W. Germany". Although the brooch is not signed it is a definite part of this demi.
A bit of a departure from the more extensively decorated German pieces of the period, this set's beauty is in the bold simplicity of it's stones. Some of the most striking and satisfying Porphyry glass I've seen. Premium colors and striations.
