Vintage Art Moderne Art Glass & Rhinestone Necklace Earrings Demi Parure Set

Although brief, the Art Moderne period encompassed all the exuberance and energy of the early to mid 1940s. Styles were big, bold and powerful. Favored by many top stars of the era, jewelry took on a new and important role in Hollywood that was to gain favor with audiences as well. In the years to come rhinestones would dominate and soon replace the spare stoned Moderne style. It was a burst of fresh air in an age when the "New Look" was THE look.

The winged necklace in the demi features a large rectangular step cut art glass stone (unfoiled and open backed) with clipped corners in an aquamarine shade. A clear chaton rhinestone rests in the center of each double ribbon wing. A triple row of rhinestone fringe dangles from beneath. An articulated flat box or snake style chain suspends the decorative center. Clasp is the embossed foldover type. Matching screw back earrings repeat the double ribbon wings with an aquamarine colored chaton rhinestone at curl (positioned at lobe when worn).

The necklace is a fixed approximate 15 inches with foldover clasp. Decorative center spans about 2 3/4 inches and is approximately 2 inches at it's longest or widest point (including fringe portion). Step cut glass stones measures about 15 millimeters x 11 millimeters. Earrings are about 1 1/4 inches x 3/4 inch with 5 millimeter chatons.

Condition of the set is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. Goldtone finishes intact, front and back. Clear rhinestones are uniformly "white" and brilliant. The stones appear much more white than the photo shows. (Clear rhinestone are always a big challenge to photograph as many of you know.) Aquamarine stones retain color and sparkle. Chain free from kinks or bends. Necklace clasp and earring screws strong and secure. Please keep in mind that this is a vintage set and it will not appear brand new.

This unsigned set is a prime example of the Moderne style. Stones are spare, bold and strategically placed, framed by dramatic splashes of machine age magic. America was coming out in a big way and jewelry reveled in all it's glory.
