Antique Victorian Civil War Era Mourning Cockade Fan - Free Shipping in US

Fresh from a great estate is this original 19th Century Cockade Mourning Fan. A cockade fan is a compact circular folding fan. It has two handles or end sticks known as guards, and opens up to 360 degrees around a central pivot, thus forming a cockade. This type of fan was used during the Civil War through the end of the Victorian era. It is in all black, with black leather encased handles and some type of treated pierced cloth, stiffened silk maybe??

Size -- The handles measure 9 inches long, when fully opened it measures 9.5 inches across and is approximately 14 inches long when fully opened. It still retains the metal end caps and the loop to fasten the fan guards together to keep the fan open. Most of the time the loop is missing!

Condition -- The fan is in good vintage condition but as the pictures show the handles are scuffed up and one of the handles has some of the wood missing around the central pivot. There is also a small tear in the crease of the cloth down towards the bottom center but isn't very obvious, expect there are other tears as well in the creases. The fan is well over a hundred years old so it doesn't look new anymore, but it is very nice and authentic.
