Extremely Rare Signed Hand Made ALEXANDRE HOGUE (Listed Artist) Art Pottery Raku Vase w/Wood Stand
This raku vase is a piece from my personal art collection; I've run out of room, and I need to find it a new home! This is a work by listed artist Alexandre Hogue (1898-1994), whose work and reputation extends far beyond the Tulsa area, where he was a well-respected artist and Art Professor at the University of Tulsa (there is now an Alexandre Hogue Gallery on the campus). Best known for his painting, to find a work in another medium is rare, but here's proof they're out there. This vase is an imposing piece, at just under a foot tall, and is just stunning. Made by roughly combining 2 colors of clay, creamy white and Oklahoma red clay, leaving in all the imperfections, then putting the greenware pot in the kiln. After it's fired, the pot is taken out and still red hot, it's put on a bed of straw or dung, setting the material on fire, and getting a "charcoal" look. It's then thrown in a cold water bath, where the surface immediately crackles, the charcoal washes off except in the cracks, and voila! Raku. Signed on the bottom in what looks like gold pen. Comes with a beautiful mahogany base. A fantastic piece!
