Vintage Hair Comb Hollywood Regency Blue Rhinestone Hair Accessory
CONDITION: good vintage condition
SIZE: 2¼ ins h x 2½ ins w (6 x 6.5 cms)
APPROXIMATE DATE: 1950s to 1960s
DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful and rather glitzy hinged comb is made in heavy silvertone metal. It features a heading design in the form of three hazel nuts which are literally encrusted in luminous blue rhinestones. The husk of the nuts are made from a combination of faceted AB rhinestones and cloudy blue cabochons. The fruit of the nut is one large oval luminous blue glass stone of the kind which is sometimes termed moonglow.
It is made in the elaborate neo-Baroque style which came into fashion from the early 1950s and probably dates from the mid to late 1950s or 1960s
The final picture is taken from a contemporary illustration in American Vogue and shows a model with a similar hair accessory in the neo Baroque or Hollywood Regency style.
FURTHER INFORMATION:
The Baroque or neo-Baroque was a revival style of the mid 20th century. It was pure glamour and glitz, favouring glittering rhinestones combined with coloured stones and materials, faux pearls and elaborate gold or silver tone settings. In the USA this style is often called Hollywood Regency from its popularity in the movie industry of the period.
