Vintage Hair Comb Art Moderne Blue Rhinestone Hair Accessory

DESCRIPTION:

This beautiful and rather glitzy comb clip features a formalised wreath motif set with large prong set pale blue rhinestones in both spherical and marquise shapes.

The heading is set on a rotating hinge which attaches is to the clear Lucite comb mount. This means that the ornament is adaptable to various positions within the hair and grips firmly.

It is made in the elaborate neo-Baroque style which came into fashion from the early 1950s and probably date from the mid to late 1950s. The final illustration is taken from a magazine advertisement of the period which shows similar combs

The Baroque or neo-Baroque was a revival style of the mid 20th century. It was pure glamour and glitz, favouring glittering rhinestones combined with coloured stones and materials, faux pearls and elaborate gold or silver tone settings. In the USA this style is often called Hollywood Regency from its popularity in the movie industry of the period.
