Vintage 50s Men's Wool 2-Tone Varsity Letterman Jacket Coat Men - Faux Leather Naugalite Sleeves by Karner Mfg Co - Size M

Medium weight red wool jacket with red knitted wool rib knit bottom and sleeve cuffs. The ribbed sections are accented with knit in off white stripes as pictured.

Although the sleeves photographed lighter in color than the body of the jacket, they are the same shade of red with no noticeable color difference.

The raglan style sleeves are made of red "Naugalite" which is coated fabric used as a leather substitute manufactured by US Rubber (Uniroyal). "Naugalite" was patented on 11/16/54 which dates this jacket after that time.

The United States Postal Serviced changed all state abbreviations to two letters in late 1963.

Accordingly, the use of "Colo" on the jacket label dates this jacket between late 1954 to late 1963.

Snaps up the center front with seven red enameled 5/8" diameter metal snaps as pictured.

The body of the jacket and sleeves are completely lined with light weight gray rayon.

There are two diagonal front welted pockets trimmed with white "Naugalite" as pictured. The inside of the pockets are cotton.

SECONDARY LABEL:

"Naugalite - The finest in Vinyl Outerwear - Dry Cleanable - Do Not Use Chlorinated Solvents - UniRoyal - U.S. Rubber"

There are no size tags present. Based on the measurements below I'd say this would best fit a modern men's Medium.

CONDITION:

Excellent - there are no holes, stains, fading, discoloration, odors or other issues.

There are a few small areas of paint loss on snaps four, five and seven as pictured, and a few tiny areas of color loss to the bottom of the left sleeve and an area near the left sleeve cuff.

These issues are hardly noticeable and don't detract from the jacket at all.

The lining is in excellent condition with no issues at all.

The coat has been professionally cleaned and is ready for you to wear.

A great varsity jacket. Perfect for any rockabilly event or everyday wear.
