This is a LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY Creche figure of the Blessed Mother, probably created for a noble home. Today the remnants of her handmade pink and blue silk habit with lace trimming is proof of her holy splendor. She has an Italian pretty face with molded reddish brown hair, glass eyes, serene smile, carved finely molded figure, standing with hands expressively posed. She has painted and gesso wooden head, arms, and legs, and body molded with hemp stuffing. Figure is 10 1/2" tall
