"On the River" is an impressionistic oil on board painting by Russian artist Alexei Pavlovich Krasnov (b. 1923). It measures 5 3/4" x 9 1/2" and is initialed lower right "A.K.P." It is framed with a metal leaf arts & crafts style frame with silk cream matting. Framed size is 12" x 15 1/2". The scene depicts a canoeist going down the river, painted very loosely and with thick brushstrokes. The painting is signed lower right. The painting and frame are in very good condition.
Born in 1923, Alexei Pavlovich Krasnov began his artistic studies at the Penza School of Fine Arts, but finished at the Leningrad Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied with M. Avilov and Y. Neprintsev. He then settled in the Russian city of Tambov, where his work is part of the permanent collection of the city's Museum of Fine Arts.
