This beautiful lace is part of a recently acquired collection. It contained many examples of fine Victorian hand made Italian, French and English lace, all of which would inspire any collector, designer or costumer.
Offered here is an exceptional example of an early hairpin lace fichu. It was made from ecru color linen thread. The thread is a very thin two ply and lace was worked in a delicate and airy pattern.
I'm not certain when this was made but the fineness of the thread and the small size suggest it is early 19th century, possibly 1800-1830.
Measures approximately 12 inches across the widest and around 19 inches long. There are a few small and repairable bride breaks along the inner edges.
