Wonderful fabric, excellent craftsmanship and a fine example of traditional folk clothing.
This is a traditional custom made, hand sewn Swiss dress that was part of an ensemble of folk clothing (a picture of the full ensemble is included so you can see what it looks like).
The style suggests country clothing worn in the Gruyere region of Switzerland. The dress was meticulously made from excellent quality cocoa brown linen with a white sprig print.
It was cut jumper style and has pearl buttons down the front and the skirt was attached with a pleated gather on the outside.
Measured flat it is: 14 inches across the shoulders; 18 inches underarm to underarm, shoulder to waist is about 15 1/2 inches; and it's about 14 1/2 inches across the waist; shoulder to hem edge is approximately 44 inches and there is a generous 3 1/2 inches hem.
A label sewn to the inside of the dress says: Schutzmarke Basler Webstube and has a logo of a woman weaving.
Very clean and overall condition is very good ++ with slight wear to the dress fabric mostly on the edges and seams as you would expect with linen.
