This wonderful large hand painted Japanese Imari charger is being offered by Yellow Garage Antiques dealers Jeff and Bobbi Britton. It is 15 3/4 inches in diameter and stands about 2 inches high. The central theme depicts flowers with blue leaves surrounded by 6 alternating panels of birds and floral arrangements. The vivid primary colors of iron red and cobalt blue are enhanced by the yellow, gold, violet, green and light blue secondary colors. The back is decorated in underglaze blue with 4 rings at the foot. There are no cracks, chips, repairs, or alterations. There are some firing spur marks from the kiln. The incised mark on the back of the charger is from the Arita Yamatoku Kiln in Saga Prefecture, Japan, ca. 1875. A large and beautiful Imari charger in excellent condition.
