Early 1800's Watercolor on Paper of Young Man with Top Hat

Hugh Allan Luck of Pine Street Studios, a Yellow Garage Antiques dealer, is offering from his private collection this 1820's Pennsylvania watercolor on paper of a young man in a formal blue coat with top hat attributed to Jacob Maentel. The painting is in an excellent state of preservation exhibiting very strong colors and a minimal amount of foxing to the background. The 19th C. frame is faux-grained red and black paint and has an acid free back.

Jacob Maentel (1763-1863) often painted men with top hats and were usually in profile. An exceptional Maentel of an identified hat maker from Pennsylvania sold a few years back for over $400,000. This painting of a young man in formal attire is typical of Maentel and easily attributes to him. Provenance available on request.
