19th C. Chip Carved and Painted Folk Art Trinket Box

For sale by Yellow Garage Antiques dealer Olde South Jersey Glass is this finely chip carved trinket box in the original polychrome paint. The box is painted in blue, green and reddish brown and dates from the mid- 1800's. It is constructed of what appears to be poplar and has one brass lock and hinges on the two lift-lidded compartments and assembled with lap joints and wooden pegs. The lower compartment lid has a tiger grain on the inside. The carving is on the top and all four sides and is exquisite.

MEASUREMENTS: 7" wide x 5 1/4" deep x 5 1/4" tall

CONDITION: Original condition with minor wear on edges, a few age related cracks, and a professional repair to the hinges on the top compartment lid.
