Handpainted Civil War 1864 Cabinet Card CDV in Period Frame "The May Queen"
This is a fabulous antique CDV card which has been hand-painted with watercolors. Incredible detail features an outdoor setting with "The May Queen", who is being adored by three lovely girls holding flower bouquets, corsages, etc.
The civil War Era photo card was published by J. P. Soule in 1864 & after being hand decorated in incredible detail, was presented in 1865. This carte de viste has been embellished with so much color & detail that it is truly a work of art.
The oval civil war era metal frame is adorned with a crown of leaves. It features a twisted metal border with a background of royal reddish-purple velvet. The base has a metal scroll design. The frame has a glass to protect the card.
It is in very good condition for being almost 150 years old. The velvet is worn, the metal is slightly off round, the backing has tears but still stands good, the corners of the card were cut to fit the frame, etc. Please see pictures.
The frame is 6 1/2" long or 6 1/4" high when standing. It is 3 5/8" wide.
