Here is a delightful set of four transfer ware cups and saucers from the well-known manufacturer Furnival which operated from 1851 in Stoke-on- Trent in the county of Staffordshire, England. The impressed 'Furnival' mark was used up until 1890. The English registry mark indicates the pattern was registered on June 4, 1879. The design is so colorful and representative of the Aesthetic period. It would make a nice addition to this type of collection.
Condition is very good considering this set is over 100 years old. On the reverse of 2 of the saucers there are small hairline cracks. These are not noticeable unless you turn the saucers over. There is a minor loss of enamel on the top edge of one of the cups (visible in one of the photos). There is some slight crazing to one of the cups and one of the saucers (there is a closeup photo of this). The brown marks that you see inside 2 of the cups and on the bottom of 1 of the cups are manufacturing defects.
The cups measure 2 1/2" high, 2 1/4" in diameter and 3" at their widest point. The saucers are 4 5/8" in diameter. Please email me with any questions and thank you for looking!
