The style of this Meissen dish is typical of pieces of its time with the three panels outlined with gold decoration. The background color is an antique pink rose with floral accents at the corners. The centerpiece, however, does not contain the usual pastoral, floral or courting scenes, but a nicely executed painting of a ship, lighthouse and men coming into shore -- could this be a shipwreck? Nevertheless, it might be a unique addition to a collection.
The mark on the back is the Meissen mark used from 1814-1860 according to Kovels Dictionary of Marks. The piece is 10" at its widest point, 9 1/2" long and 1 1/2" high. There is loss to the gilding as well as loss to the background paint. There is a black dot to the left of the ship's mast. I have taken closeups of the imperfections. Please email with any questions you might have.
