Welcome to Mama Jo's House of Dolls where every doll comes with a surprise!
This is "Billy," one of Mama Jo's absolute favorite dolls and 24" of sunshine! She even had her own professional photo shoot way back when. Wish I could have seen the photographer's face when asked to oblige. Billy's been very well-loved and is looking for someone ready to smother her with similar affection. Her 1920's composition body has some crazing but look at those full red eyelashes, tin blue eyes, high color, dimples, and molded red hair. Her neck mark says: PETITE DOLL. Made by American Character, she also has a little friend - a Lever Brothers Snuggle teddy bear with his label that is very cute and soft. In the photo envelope that says "SIX PHOTOGRAPHS OF BABY DELIGHT" are 4 photos of another doll that has vanished over the years and 2 of Billy. She still wears the outfit and bonnet she has on in the photo. It has a stain in front, a tear underneath it and a hole under her left arm. She has another super soft hand-embroidered vintage white dress underneath so you don't see the tears. She wears a cloth diaper from that era. Her fingers have some paint loss. Her crier doesn't work. I believe she also has her original shoes and socks. What a sweet Mama doll.
