The top of this Bronze Peacock frame starts with the combined top-knot crest of two peacocks; the one facing left, the other facing right. If one looks closely the heads of the 2 peacocks can be seen directly below the top crest. With each, the head, the eye, and the beak can be seen. Trailing away from each peacock across the top down the sides and meeting again at the bottom center are what we believe is in a highly stylized impressionistic manner are each peacocks' plumage trains with the inlaid Persian turquoise representing the peacocks' iridescent feathers. The sensual curvings of the train and plumage allows for an abundance of reticulation. The resulting reticulation in turquoise inlay produces a visually striking example of design and metal craftsmanship.
The back is closed beneath the inlay; also the frame's original hanging chain is intact which is bronze twisted link chain with each link being individually decorated. The original holding clips are intact. Age: 19th Century.
