This is a nicely executed portrait of an older gentleman painted on wood. I first thought that I had found a single bookend, but I now suspect that this could have been produced as a free standing piece of art with it's own attached easel. It was created by a skilled artist - the modeling of the facial features is very well done. The style of the man's clothing suggests the 1800's. This piece shows a lot of age, but is still in good condition. The ornate bracket on the back is unusual and has a great patina. Full height is about 7 1/2 inches, width of the widest point of the base is 6 3/8 inches. The painted image is a little over 3 1/4 inches wide and 5 3/8 inches high. This is an exceptional piece of folk art.
