Aesthetic Movement Transferware Plate, Victoria Pattern
This attractive black transferware plate is a wonderful example of the naturalistic themes typical of the Aesthetic Movement. The asymmetrical design features sprigs of flowers and leaves and a hovering bee. The mark on the back dates this sturdy ironstone plate to between 1862 and 1890. It is marked A. Bros. which stands for G. L. Ashworth Bros.
It measures 9 5/8 inches diameter. The condition is very good for a plate that is well over a hundred years old. There are no chips or cracks. There are several little rough spots on the edge of the plate and a few tiny spots of very light staining. There are some light utensil marks. These are the results of normal wear and are very minor and difficult to see. They are mentioned for accuracy. This is a beautiful plate that displays very well. It would make a great addition to your transferware collection.
