This wonderful round box which is 3" in diameter X 1" high has a reverse painting of a young maiden holding a jug on top of her head, while walking across a stream on a rather narrow board. But she is fine for she is smiling and appears to be very confident. It may be because the provenance of this item is written inside the lid and base of this box. It is dated 1857 and lists a necklace, ring, and heart were placed in this box. The box is trimmed in Dresden paper and outlined in a gilt metal. Its condition, especially the painting, is excellent. It would be a delightful piece to place on a vanity or table.
