This is one of the most magnificent miniature paintings we have come across in many years. It is a pastoral scene of a sheperdess tending her sheep with a gentleman, lake, and hillside in the background. It is signed in the lower left corner and appears to be "HD". It is a hand painted oil on a thin wafer of a material unknown to us, but we have photographed the reverse as shown in a photograph. The frame which appears to be a carved walnut frame is actually metal with a thin curved glass protecting the painting. The back of the painting is a thin piece of wood with "Italy" impressed in the wood. There is also a label which says, "art.710 Paes.olio". The overall measurements are 4" X 4 3/4" and the site measurements are 2" X 3 1/2". This such a remarkable piece of artwork for a grand doll house or display. Also, it would be a beautiful addition for the miniature art collector. We are displaying it on a doll house wall with a Simon Halbig doll, both of which are used for display only.
