This is the most unusual and extraordinary miniature piece of furniture we have ever seen. It is a period piece, origin and maker unknown, but what a masterpiece of workmanship is displayed. The shape is most interesting in that it has a bow front and scalloped ogee sides. The top has beautiful inlaid marquetry in light and dark tone rectangles. There are three drawers with rectangular string inlay and a brass knob. The top drawer is smaller than the the two lower drawers and they are all separated with wood slides on the inside. The attached mirror is also scalloped with the figure of an animal's head carved into the frame. Even more interesting are the hand carved mirror supports, which we can best describe as stylized sea urchins. The entire chest is raised on four carved gilt wood supports which also resemble animal figures. The two front supports resemble animal heads, possibly of a dog, and the two rear resemble hooves. The primary wood appears to be burled mahogany or walnut and the patina is extraordinarily warm and smooth. The size of this piece is perfect for displaying a very special doll's accoutrements; we are showing it with French beaded gaiters and a French perfume, both of which are not for sale at this time. The overall size is perfect for an 11" 13" doll. However, it is handsome miniature piece in its own right.
The approximate measurements are: overall height 13" X overall width 8" X overall depth 6". Height of the chest top is 6".
