Three Terra Cotta Cold Painted Figures

This trio of youthful figures have been created in terra cotta and then cold painted in the mid 19th century by an extraordinarily talented artist. His playful and artistic intention was to create a romantic tale of a young lad meeting the girl of his dreams for the first time. The posture and facial expressions of all three figures are in great detail, accurately representing the emotional sentiments of each one. And this is how we think the story line progressed. The dashing young fellow, prone and propped on his elbow, had wanted to meet this lovely young lady for quite some time. Having convinced her brother for an introduction, the older brother looks on from behind. Gazing upon the young lady, the young lad is smitten and starry-eyed. Most probably he is also speechless. Well, the young lady with a sincerely sweet smile and countenance is not quite sure what to make of this young man. She gestures slightly to her brother for his thoughts and the older brother nonchalantly nods back. This is the culmination of the artist's story line, so beautifully created. The ending of this story is written by the viewer through his own imagination. The condition of the three figures are just as the artist created. There is a slight chip to the paint on the bottom of the shoe of the prone young man. The firm for which the artist worked is marked on the bottom of each piece. We believe the firm was located in Germany or Austria. Also marked on the bottom of each piece are the mold numbers, which is very typical of German firms.

The approximate measurements are: young lady 6" long X 5 1/2" high; prone young man 8" long X 4" high; seated young man 5 1/2" long X 5 1/2" high.
