Antique Lebanon County, Pa., Painted Blanket Chest Spectacular Circa 1800

For sale we have a Pennsylvania Painted/Decorated Blanket Chest of dovetailed construction, with three drawers and flat bracket feet. The arched tombstone panels on both the top surface and the front panel are dappled in a dark blue/green hue with a sunburst design in each arch. The tombstone panels are surrounded by an eye catching sawtooth design. The drawer fronts are painted in the same blue/green color and have brass pulls. The overall background color of the chest is an earthy orange. The inside of the chest reveals the original till, hinges and jaw lock. Based on comparisons in Fabian's "The Pennsylvania German Decorated Chest", this piece appears to date from 1800 from Dauphin County which is now Lebanon County. We did not "clean up" the surface of this chest leaving it in "as found" condition. There is normal wear one would expect to see, a replaced center drawer pull, and one of the strap hinges is broken. The true beauty is under some dirt and grime and this will be an even more stunning piece if one wishes to restore it. The chest measures 50" wide x 24" deep x 26" tall. A true Lebanon County Treasure!
