Here is a vintage footed trinket box we believe is made of cut soapstone held in an embossed gold tone metal frame. There is a wonderful unique enamel design in shades of blue (dark blue and turquoise blue) with brown and white on the top surface of the box. The design looks very much like waves on the bottom with creatures covering the rest of the surface. In the center there is a dragon with a blue head and brown scaled body with three white claws; a fourth appendage is blue. There appears to be a smaller creature(s) in the sea near what looks like a brown door – could be a shrimp. The box measures 3 ½ inches by 2 ¾ inches and is in very nice condition with no visible damage other than slight scrapes on the enamel on the edge of the top as seen in the photo and scrapes to the enamel seen with magnification. The box has a hinge that works well (although it protrudes slightly in the back) and this hinge holds the top of the box open perfectly. This is a unique item that has meaning within Oriental cultures given the important dragon motif.
