Postcard Campbell Art Co. Evelyn Nesbit The Debutante Undivided marked copyright 1898 c. 1901-1907
Notes: Alfred S. Campbell (1840-1912) was a photographer and entrepreneur who worked in England and came to the U.S. in 1866. He started the Alfred S. Campbell Art Co in Elizabeth, NJ. In 1892 the company employed 300 people distributing postcards, stereoviews, calendars, cards and prints. The company specialized in theatrical photography and portraiture with photos of the stars in the fashionable dress of the times. Reportedly, some of Campbell's work can be seen in the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian. The model for this card is Evelyn Nesbit (1884-1967), a popular chorus girl and artist's model in the late 1800s - early 1900s. Ms Nesbit posed for Prudential Life, Swift and Coca Cola, creating consumer demand for a variety of products.
