Attractive set of 5 matching gilt sterling and enamel strawberry/berry forks made c. 1890's by the firm of French & Franklin, and retailed by the Scooler Company, based in New Orleans and in business from 1842 until 1900. The handles are composed of an openwork floral motif, with applied enamel work done in shades of blue/green aquamarine. Each fork measures 4 7/8" and the total weight of the set is 57.4 grams; just under 2 oz troy. No repairs or monograms noted. The reverse of each piece carries the French and Franklin touchmarks, as well as the Scooler retail stamp. Overall condition is very good, with no dents or bent tines; the enameled flowers on the handles show some scattered enamel loss; overall gilding on the pieces is good, there is a bit of gilding loss to the pieces overall, more on the reverse and tines. A nice set-and just in time for all those fresh summer berries or any other petite treat!
