Victorian Antique Pickle Castors are a table accessory generally consisting of a decorative frame fitted with a glass insert, lid, and tongs. Pickle castors were very popular during the Victorian era and are now highly collectible. Most pickle castor inserts are either early American pattern glass (EAPG) or art glass that was sometimes hand painted.
This particular Pickle Castor has a Blue Spanish Lace Pattern Glass insert that is not marked. It is just beautiful! The frame is marked Hard White Metal and Quadruple Plated. The name of the company is not clear. The number 170 is impressed as well. The frame is 9.5" high and the base has a lovely floral pattern. The tongs are 6.5" long and show a simple elegance. There are no breaks, chips, cracks on any of the pieces. The frame does show some wear. Clearly this was used and enjoyed! It will make a great gift or addition to your collection!
