This covered mustard jar in the Butterfly Ears or Alaric pattern dates from the 1880s. It is a Bryce Higbee product. The jar is 4.5 inches tall and 2.75 inches across. It is made of heavy pressed glass. A spoon comes with the mustard jar. It is made of glass as well. The spoon has a scoop type bowl and a small clear knob on the top.
There is some inner roughness around the rim of the base and there are two small fleabites - one is on one of the ears and other is inside the lid near the spoon slot.. The mold lines are rough along the bottom; however, these are not not cracks.
This is a rarely found pattern for a mustard dish. Considering its age, this is in very good condition. There is nothing about any of the flaws that spoils the appearance. I also have a matching open master salt with a salt shovel. Buy both pieces and save on shipping.
