Ginger Jar Iris Bouquet Made in Japan Otagiri

This white ginger jar has purple and white irises and buds with green leaves. The jar is about 4.5 inches tall including the lid. This is an Otagiri product and was made in Japan in the 1970s-1980s. This is the Iris Bouquet pattern. Ginger jars were made to hold spices, salts, oils and other things traditionally stored in canisters.

Dinner plates, salad plates, cups, vases and different sized ginger jars were made in this pattern. Ginger jars originated in China. They were often given as gifts. The white ginger was traditionally given as a wedding gift. This jar has no chips or cracks. The Otagiri trademark and the pattern name are on the bottom.
