This crown shaped bowl is fit for royalty. The bowl was designed by George Sakier for Fostoria. It is from Fostoria's Crown gift ware collection introduced in 1961 and produced through 1965. The design is based on the pattern of the Navarre (French) crown. The Navarre was made in pedestal compotes covered and uncovered as well open serving bowls.
The bowl is 8.75 inches wide at the top, 6 inches at the bottom and is 4 inches deep. There are no chips or cracks and there are minimal signs of use. The glass really sparkles and is very clear. The spots at the bottom of the bowl have been removed once the bowl was clean. There are two mold lines that are visible, but are not rough.
Also included in the Crown collection were the Hapsburg, Luxemburg, and Windsor crowns. The pieces were made in limited forms. Indiana Glass Co. and Fenton Art Glass Co. bought the molds when Fostoria closed. There are obvious differences in the bowls made by the other companies. There is no doubt this bowl was made by Fostoria.
The bowl is quite heavy for its size and can be shipped via FedEx Ground.
